10 And it came to pass that Helaman did send forth to take this band of robbers and secret murderers, that they might be executed according to the law.
So in those days, with good men as leaders, they believed in the Death penalty. What is the church's stance? Do they take one? This is a hot subject. I believe in the death penalty, but there are caveats. There needs to be 100% certainty that the people committed the crimes that sent them there. Innocent people have died and I'm not ok with that.
11 But behold, when Gadianton had found that Kishkumen did not return he feared lest that he should be destroyed; therefore he caused that his band should follow him. And they took their flight out of the land, by a secret way, into the wilderness; and thus when Helaman sent forth to take them they could nowhere be found.
12 And more of this Gadianton shall be spoken hereafter. And thus ended the forty and second year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi.
13 And behold, in the end of this book ye shall see that this Gadianton did prove the overthrow, yea, almost the entire destruction of the people of Nephi.
That's sad. I don't like when whole peoples die.

Mormon (I think it's Mormon, or maybe Moroni) later talks about these secret combinations and says he has seen our day and that they are abundant among us... and they would prove the destruction... but there are amazing things to happen to keep these secret combinations from winning.
the news is all full of sad events. it could make one think that there is nothing good going on anywhere. I personally think there is much good going on in the world. It just doesn't make the news.
I agree, the news would be "boring" with only good stuff, but I would love it way more. I'd love to put out a publication that only published good news, happy events.
I never watch the news and rarely look it up online because I don't need anything dragging me down.
You are right about the secret combinations, they are abundant.
